Atherosclerosis Research Trial
Suffolk, VA
Atherosclerosis is a condition that happens when plaque builds up in the walls of your arteries. Plaque is made up of fat, cholesterol, and other substances that can stick to the walls of your arteries and form a hard deposit. Over time, this can make your arteries narrower and harder. This can make it harder for blood to flow through your arteries and can increase your risk of heart disease, stroke, and other health problems. Atherosclerosis is caused by things like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, and diabetes. It’s important to keep your heart healthy by eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and not smoking.
